Bengkulu Province, Indonesia

The project

SGP has tried and tested recycling technologies that can be installed not only in Bengkulu but also in other provinces of Sumatra.

Following SGP’s interview on the main national television channel (see below), five provinces in Indonesia (out of 35 provinces) have expressed a strong interest in this technology.

SGP has the know-how and the technical team required to carry out this first pilot project in Indonesia.

All the technologies that will be used already exist, but have never been implemented because most of the owners of these technologies/patents were more interested in profiting from them than in supporting development projects in Indonesia and in developing countries in general. Our technology, on the other hand, is simple, accessible and not highly automated, with no risk of breakdowns or major technical problems.

Most of the work is done manually by local workers. The presence of 150 waste pickers near the site will facilitate the availability of labour.

Waste management and the added value of waste/recycling are the main challenges in Indonesia today, as they have a negative impact on the quality of the environment and the health of the population.

SGP has already identified the most potential green solutions for recycling the organic and non-organic waste available in order to avoid methanisation and reduce CO2 emissions.

A working cooperative will be set up, facilitating the demands of the three stakeholders who will have their own representatives: the landfill workers, the city of Bengkulu and Swiss Green Projects. Regular meetings will be organised.
